Who is Claudia Leitte that sings the world cup song?
Claudia? Claudia Leitte? Who is she? Why is everyone mentioning this name now?
Many people outside of Brazil who never heard of Claudia Leitte are asking this question now. So who is she and why am I writing this blog about her?
More than a year ago, I saw a photo of beautiful lady on Instagram’s popular page. I remember that the big smile in the picture and spark in the eyes were what captured my eyes. Those who know me can tell that after 9 years of working on TV, I don’t give a shit about “celebrities”, I think that it’s a world full of fake and it’s hard to find real people that works in the industry, because usually it’s all around interests (give and take). So I don’t know what made me leave comment on that photo on instagram, that lady had millions of fans, thousands of comments and likes, so it was useless to leave a message, but i did. I wrote her something about her smile and then 20 seconds later I got a comment back from her.
Hold on?! did this beautiful lady respond to me? who are you Claudia Leitte? “I just comment on your photo, you commented back, why are so many Brazilians writing to me now?” and then she started liking some other photos of mine and… I started exploring her photos, saw that she has a tattoo in Hebrew “רפאל” and also the sign of David’s Star, I found it interesting, she followed me. I followed her back.
All that, without knowing who she is, yet. So I went to Renata, my Brazilian friend asking her “Do you know who Claudia Leitte is?”, by the look in her eyes I understood that she clearly someone special, famous, in Brazil. I decided not to Google her, I wanted to get to know her through her photos and through what she writes (thank you Google translate). She was inspiring. but not in a “pushy way”. Her messages were very real and genuine. Something about this lady was magical, spiritual, she made every thing on her instagram very personal, and as you know, I believe that if you want to “make it” on social, you need to be personal and be social.
So with the time following her photos, I understood that she’s a very famous singer in Brazil (again, I didn’t want to Google her, so I didn’t even listen to any of her songs), she’s a judge in The Voice Brazil, she’s doing charity, she’s connected to the ground, she has a husband, Marcio who is actually very funny and she loves him a lot, she has two kids Davi and Rafael (which explains her tattoos), she has brother – Claudio and sister… and all of that I got to learn through her social media posts.
At one stage, I think it was after Instagram launched their Direct Message, I decided to check it and say “Hi” to my mysterious friend. Few minutes after, she said “hi” back. Hold on?! did you respond to me? who are you Claudia Leitte? To cut the long story short, I got the chance to really meet Claudia. I apologize for not sharing the content of our conversations, but I do want to share with you that I’ve realized that getting to know her was not by mistake. I’ve realized that we share lots in common. I’ve realized that she’s a simple person but unique and divine. I knew that this is a new good and honest friendship.
Few months later, We got to meet in person, in Los Angeles and it felt so natural. Ten seconds with Claudia and her family made me feel like we know each other for years, I wasn’t feeling that this is “famous Brazilian singer”, It was my new (old) friend that I just met.
After a week in L.A with Claudia, Marcio, Davi and Rafael I’ve got to the conclusion that Claudia Leitte is one of the most sensitive people I’ve ever met. While many people in her “level” would be self centered and feel like the sun is shinning through their… Claudia is down to earth, amazing listener, intelligent, has the ability to analyze things and also mega friendly. And It made me feel how special Brazil and Brazilians are to have such an amazing person to represent them in the world.
So tonight, in World Cup opening ceremony, excuse me for not being excited with the football/soccer games, but for being proud and honored to see my friend, Claudia preforming on that stage, in her own country, to the whole world, singing with Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez “We Are One” and at that moment I will see her on stage, I would feel that we are one and that I am with her on the stage.
Claudia, “tapeshet”, I’m so fucking proud of you. You’ve made it and now the entire world is going to enjoy you. #WeAreOne
On our Last day in Los Angeles I promised Claudia that next time we meet will be in the Carnival and I am definitely planning to keep my promise. Claudia Leitte, see you in Salvador!
