Will the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians ever end? Is there any solution for it? Who will win the battle?
The on-going conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians is not getting any better and in every round of battle, it becomes more aggressive, nastier and causes death and suffering to too many people. Thinking about it reminded me of this conversation between an Israeli soldier and a Palestinian guy in the border between Israel and Gaza-
Palestinian: “We want to work again in Israel, just like we used to… We don’t want any problems”
Israeli Soldier: “But when we let you in, you explode in our cities and even here, at the border control. You let terrorists shoot missiles from your houses toward Israeli houses using you and your family as human shields. Why should we?”
Palestinian: “ Let me ask you something. If someone knocks on your door, saying to you, if you don’t let me send missiles from your house, I’d kill your family, what would you not do it?”
This is part of a conversation I had 10 years ago when I was a soldier in the Israeli defence forces and it opened my mind to realise that this will be an ongoing loop between the Israelis and the Palestinians, unless we find a solution to deal with the real problem- Terror.
The Palestinians are suffering from Hamas’ terror almost as much as the Israelis. They are afraid of it and can’t really do anything against it. In addition, Hamas takes cares of its’ supporters by giving them food, health care and an education to their kids. Obviously this type of education entails a deep hatred toward Israel and firm belief in violence and terror. This is also the reason why Hamas is being elected to government. The “innocent” people that the media always talk about can’t do anything when armed terrorist are standing in front of them, so I truly believe that they have to support the group.
I once had conversation with an American friend, trying to explain to him the situation and only when he read about Jihad he started understanding that “something is wrong with this” (these were his words). Jihad refers to struggle against those who do not believe in the Allah and this physical struggle can take a violent form. Jihad appears 41 times in the Quran. So wait, Does that mean that those who follow the Quran want the death of Christians as well? I’ll leave you to figure out the answer.
To my opinion, one of Israel’s biggest problem is not knowing how to explain the story to the media, in other words- propaganda. On the other side, the Palestinians are the experts in it. The only reason the world doesn’t hear about dead Israelis from the outstanding, crazy rockets attack by Hamas that attacks Israelis civilians deliberately might I add 4 times an hour to protected shelters is that Israel has an “Iron Dome”, a brilliant and expensive system that is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells. When Hamas’ terrorists send rockets to Israel, they do it from innocent people’s houses so that when Israel fires back to destroy those missile launchers, it also causes the death of these people. Hamas is “happy” and proud to show it to the world- wounded bodies and mothers crying as well as destroyed houses is their ultimate goal. What Hamas doesn’t say is that it uses these poor people as human shields, putting their lives at risk, knowing that Israel will have to react- to defend itself. So, Israel reacts after many many attempts for a cease fire, and after warning the Palestinians that these missile launchers will be destroyed all while allocating the people an adequate amount of time to escape. Unfortunately not all of them manage to escape. To the world- whose fault is it? Israel.
For many, the term “human shield” is not understandable. How could parents/adults put young kids’ life at risk and use them and their life for this cause? I was surprised as well but that’s reality. Many kids are situated in the heart of the missiles so then when the response come from Israel they would be the first to die. I have seen lately many videos of kids before their death, I of course feel very sorry for it, and I sympathize with their families. But I was wondering about the coincidence of filming all these kids just 5 seconds before their death. To me it’s more of a set up. Think about it too.
When I travel around the world, I encounter people that are accusing Israel of the death of these innocent people. It makes me wonder and I ask them back- How would the Americans react if a guerrilla starts shooting missiles from Japan to Hawaii? What would the British do if Ireland starts sending rockets to London? How would South Korea react if North Korea starts bombarding? How long will it take the Russians to destroy anyone who threatens them?
With that thought in mind, Two years ago I launched a social media campaign #StopTheTerror trying to raise awareness of the real problem – terror. I was asking people to post photos of themselves with the word “STOP” and the hash tag #StopTheTerror, calling the leaders of the world to wake up and understand that terror can be found everywhere- in Syria, Egypt and even in the states (September 11 anyone?). Within two weeks, the campaign reached almost 12,000 photos from all over the world of people calling to stop terror. I could spot photos from Puerto Rico to Austria, from Brazil to Philippines, from Thailand to Canada- all unite for one cause – a plea to stop the terror. My social media campaign – #StopTheTerror was picked by media outlets all over the world-Huffington Post, CNN, schwaebische, The Positive and more. I was hoping that the world leaders will sit down and come up with a solution of how a country can deal with terror- what can that country do. Unfortunately they haven’t done anything.
To me the “war” between Israel and Palestinian territories is not a war of two countries; it’s a war of army Vs. guerrilla. So what’s the solution of dealing with guerrilla that uses innocent people as human shields? A real army would protect its’ people and would never put them at risk. Hammas claims that any person that dies by Israel and “for the sake of Palestine” is a saint. So if for them dying like this is something holy, why would they even care about the poor people that just want normal lives?! Praying for better quiet days especially in the middle east.
