Not the best place to stay in Oxford (not even close)

When I asked my friends who live in Oxford for recommendation of where to stay they suggested me “The Oxford Hotel”, saying it’s one of the bests there + it’s a dog friendly hotel.

So I guess that set my expectation to have great experience in the hotel…
When I got to the hotel with four bags (I was carrying my colleagues’ bags as well) and my dog, there was only one guy in the check in (4pm) and he was busy on the phone, so had to wait for a while until he finished. When he did the check me in, he asked for my card saying that he is charging me for the room and besides telling me that breakfast is served on the second floor I wasn’t updated about anything and nothing (for example didn’t know anything about the hotel’s facilities- I think there’s gym and pool, not sure). Needless to say, I wasn’t offered help carrying the bags to the room.

My room (261) was so far from reception and I had to carry the bags (and my dog) with me; Seriously, it was the longest walk I’ve ever had in hotel and since I was there with my dog, I had to do this way back and forth whenever I wanted to take him out for walk.

The room was ok. nothing fancy (no pens or more than one shampoo in the room, so don’t “count” on it). Whenever I turned the light in the bathroom on, it was super noisy probably because of the vent.

There’s a cafeteria in the lobby and the service I got there was good and coffee as well, however their take out cups are the smallest you’ve ever seen; the guy was decent not to charge me full price for it because its’ size.

In the morning after, when I got to breakfast, I was updated by the guy there, that breakfast is not included in my reservation and that I need to go to the reception to sort it out, which was really weird. So imagine me, at 8am, craving for my coffee, need to go down (from second floor) to reception just to tell them “yeah, you can charge my room for breakfast”. By the way, If I knew that the breakfast was so poor, I wouldn’t take it and just eat outside. It’s definitely not worth the £12+ they charge. for what they offer, i would say – No more than £6

When I checked out, I was told that I wasn’t charged and they need my card again, even though I told her I have receipt from the check in a day before. Her respond was- “You were not charge, it was just for safety!”. So why did you waste my time on check in if I wasn’t charged then?

The internet is free however limited- maximum bandwidth of 512K for the period of stay- not suitable for large downloads including music, film or games.

The only good thing about it that it’s a dog friendly hotel so I could bring Izo with me, besides that I would definitely go to different hotel.

To summarise all, something is not working in “The Oxford Hotel”; They clearly don’t now how to give good service it’s not good value for the money spent. I only went there because it was dog friendly, besides that, I would say- avoid “The Oxford Hotel”.
